Hi,
For systems where the GPU isn’t providing graphical output (or you are running in non-X11 run level) then there are a few commands that have to be run to enable the card. This is documented in the install instructions for the driver software but easy to overlook. Put the file in /etc/init.d (on a Centos machine) and run:
chmod +x /etc/init.d/kepler
chkconfig tesla on
service tesla start
This will make sure the required device special files are created and that the card is put into exclusive compute mode (e.g. only one task on a GPU at a time to maximise throughput of complex tasks).
