Project Title: Making Space for Curiosity and Innovation: Reshaping
Sheffield Museums
Funded by the AHRC through a Collaborative Doctoral Award
Applications are invited to this fully funded AHRC Collaborative PhD
studentship based in the Department of Geography, University of
Sheffield, with co-supervision from the School of Architecture,
University of Sheffield, and in conjunction with Museums Sheffield.
This project explores museums as ‘spaces for curiosity and innovation’.
It will focus upon the interaction between people and spaces in museums.
The student will spend three months each year for three years based in
and working within Museums Sheffield and nine months based at the
University of Sheffield. During the Museum internships, the student will
gain hands-on experience in the museums in activities relevant to this
project: in reshaping exhibition spaces and/or the installation of new
exhibits, and s/he will also conduct a significant component of the
project's data collection there. These activities will support the
doctoral research project, the focus of which will be shaped by the
student’s interests, in collaboration with the museums and through
academic supervisions.
