Dear Professor Stockhammer,
I am writing to you as a board member of Glasgow University Real World Economics Society (GURWES). The society was founded at the end of the previous academic year and advocates pluralism in economic thought and education. To this end, we have organised numerous events over the course of this academic year, including guest lectures, talks and tutorial sessions given by students, as well as trips to the Warwick International Development Summit and the fringe event “Campaigning for Pluralism” at the Royal Economics Society’s annual meeting in Manchester. We have also been in contact with similar groups at other universities throughout the UK. More recently, we helped pioneer the formation of an international alliance of student groups campaigning for pluralism. Together we have been working on an international manifesto, to be released simultaneously through media outlets in all represented countries as well as online. Even though such demands have been made in the past, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that student groups have organised across borders to issue a coordinated call for a reform of economics curricula. To make sure that the manifesto has the maximum possible impact upon release, we would like to ask you to add your name in support. It would appear on a list of supporters on the website currently being designed and possibly some press releases and articles. It would be great to have you on board for this. I am attaching the current draft of the manifesto. We are in the final stages of editing, so the content will not change substantially from this. We are aiming for a release date during the first week of May. The website will go live the night before the press release of the manifesto.
You can read more about the society here<http://www.worldeconomicsassociation.org/newsletterarticles/gurwes>. Please get in touch if you have any further questions.
Best wishes
Severin Reissl
