Hi All,

Please find a call for papers about Bangladesh and Bengal speaking India, attached. The CFP can also be accessed from http://www.sasnet.lu.se/sites/default/files/halle2014.pdf

The deadline is 30th April, 2014. This is a last minute post though some of you may be interested in sending a quick abstract as the conference is open to any submission from the humanities and social sciences as long as the region of study is either Bangladesh or Bengali speaking India.

Best wishes,
Rumana

Call for Papers
Third Conference on Bengal Related Studies for Students and Young Scholars, October 25-26, 2014 in Halle (Saale), Germany

The South Asia Seminar of the Martin LuLink e.V. and the Arbeitskreis
Neuzeitliches e.V. (DGA), will host the Third Conference on Bengal Related Studies for Students and Young
Scholars. The aim of the conference is to provide an interdisciplinary venue for students and young scholars who focus on the Bengal regions in their research. The Martin Luther University Halle research on the Bengal regions, Bengali language and culture has been an integral part for a long
time. After the emergence of numerous studies on the Bengal regions
South Asian Studies (e.g. Development Studies, the conference organisers realised the necessity of giving students and young scholars an option
to discuss their various topics and reborders. After the success of the first and second conference in 2010 and 2012 the organisers are very much looking forward to hosting the third one interdisciplinary network for Bengal Related Studies.

There is no overarching theme; any topic from the humanities and social sciences is welcome as long as the region of study is either Bangladesh or Bengali speaking India. We invite abstracts (max. 300 words) from grad
uate and postgraduate students and young scholars at any stage of
their career.

Please send your abstract along with your affiliation details and a short CV 30, 2014 to [log in to unmask]

The conference committee will inform the appli
cants by May 31 whether their papers have been selected for presentation or not. The conference will begin with an informal dinner on Friday (October 24). Since the conference committee is aware of the fact that students are often financially strained, participants will be kept as low as possible, and proposals for individual financial support will be considered.

Conference committee members:
Carmen Brandt (Halle), Kirsten Hackenbroch (Freiburg), Maria Schubert (Halle), Franziska Strich (Halle),
Franziska Utomo (Nürnberg), Boris Wille (Halle), Lisa Zander (Magdeburg)
