Hi all,
We thought list members might be interested to find out a bit about what went on at the UKAD Forum 2014 held at TNA on 27th March this year. It was the scene of probably the world premier of a mass metadata mapping movement, in which each delegate became a metadata element and then tried to team up with fellow metadata elements….we leave you to imagine the scene!
Our theme was Standards For Discovery: from the small archive to the European stage. We were very keen to put standards centre-stage in this way, and delegates certainly seemed to enjoy the lively presentations and discussions around this theme. We had a great keynote from Nick Poole of the Collections Trust, followed by sessions on UK aggregations and European aggregations. We also had thoughts about standards in archival management systems and a session on copyright to support digital discovery. The sessions focussed on the ‘under-the-bonnet’ side of our work, but we hope that we managed to show how the data and the standards that we use under-pin our websites, help with our outreach and enable us to reach much broader audiences, across different domains.
The UKAD website has links to presentations and posters from the day, with a summary from the Descriptive Standards Roundtable, a blog giving a delegate’s perspective, and some feedback from delegates on Collections Management Policies.
