In preparation for capital work for Open Treasure, Durham Cathedral's major multi-phase development project, Durham Cathedral Library collections and staff are moving to 5 The College, in the close on the south side of the Durham Cathedral.
The move will take 4-6 weeks. The Cathedral Library will reopen a full service to readers at 5 The College at the beginning of June 2014. The Library will remain at 5 The College for the duration of the building work.
During the period of the move there will be no access to the modern collections, including the Sharp library. Historic collections will be accessible by appointment only, with at least 5 working days’ notice, at the discretion of library staff. Access to historic material cannot be guaranteed, but we will do our best. Please contact [log in to unmask] or 0191 3862489 to request access to historic material.
Further information and updates will be posted to the Library webpage, Twitter and Facebook accounts.
This will be the first time since the 1680s that the Library has moved out of its home in the Cloister. Thank you for your support and cooperation during this challenging and exciting phase in the history of the Library.
With best wishes - Gabriel.
