The MRC Biostatistics Unit aims to advance medical science by the
development of statistical methodology. It is one of Europe's leading
biostatistics research institutions and includes many internationally
renowned statisticians. It provides a privileged environment for
conducting research, with negligible administration, no requirement to
teach, and access to important applications of high public interest.
The Unit has a number of opportunities to offer posts, at either a
senior or more junior level, from among the following areas:
* Evidence synthesis and health economic modelling
* Novel methods for cost-effectiveness analysis
* Generic bias modelling in evidence synthesis
* Attrition and missing data in cohort studies
* Non-compliance in clinical trials
* Individual patient data meta-analysis with time-to-event outcomes
* Analysis of bioinformatic and genetic markers in heart disease
* Meta-analysis of gene-disease associations

For a junior level post, applicants will have a PhD in a relevant topic
or equivalent research experience. For a senior level post, applicants
will have a PhD and at least five years experience of research in
statistics. Senior level candidates will be expected to take the lead in
planning and managing their own research, and to develop junior
statisticians and PhD students.
The starting salary at the senior level is likely to be in the range of
£35,000 to £38,000 per annum, or at the more junior level £25,000
to £28,000 (depending on qualifications and experience), supported by
a flexible pay and reward policy, 30 days annual holiday entitlement and
an optional final salary MRC pension scheme. Excellent sports and social
facilities are also available on site.
