Postdoctoral Research Associate in Disease Mapping (Fixed Term)
Salary: £28,132.00 to £36,661.00
Limit of Tenure: The funds for this post are available for up to 21
months in the first instance.
Applications are invited for a new postdoctoral position in disease
mapping in the Disease Dynamics Unit, Department of Veterinary Medicine,
University of Cambridge.
The main focus of the research, led by Dr Colin Russell, is to
systematically identify critical gaps in animal influenza virus
surveillance by mapping the geographic distribution of animal influenza
viruses and the surveillance activities that monitor them. The project
will involve assembling a global database of known animal influenza
virus occurrence, surveillance activities, and information on potential
for human-animal interactions.
Applicants should have a PhD, preferably in geography, infectious
disease epidemiology, mathematical biology, or a related field.
Experience working with large datasets, constructing databases, and
using GIS software (such as ArcGIS), along with a working knowledge of
statistics, is essential. Knowledge of infectious disease surveillance
and interest in information visualisation and are both highly desirable.
The successful candidate will need to be effective working individually
and in close collaboration with others.
