We have the abbott meters and have used them for nearly 10 years now and
also do ketones. Just to make a few comments:
You can't do ketones without doing the glucose test as the meters have
compulsory QC on board. If you try and disable the glucose qc option it
won't let you and you have to have at least a low or high level
selected. When the glucose QC is due you have to do the glucose QC first
before it will let you do the ketone QC so you can't choose to ignore
the glucose QC due now message.
You can adjust the length of time between QC tests and set the glucose
QC to 999 hours (this is the maximum length of time you can set) if you
wish but when this expires you will still need to do the glucose QC.
We have set the ketone QC to once a week and the glucose QC daily.
We have no issues with the meters but we use them as our main glucose
meters and have the ketones turned on for certain wards. There is def
only the option to turn the ketone test off and on and not the glucose.
We have no issues with mixing up glu and ket results as the ketone
strips are purple and the glucose are blue. The meter also recognising
what the strip type it is. We have yet to have an issue with someone
reporting a ketone result as a glucose or visa versa and we have been
doing ketones for nearly 4 years now.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the replies, which have confirmed our thoughts about the
Abbott machines.
Thanks

The glucose (and ketone) QC lockout/warning interval for the Abbott
connected meters can be changed or disabled. We have glucose and ketone
QC lockouts set to different time intervals. If the glucose QC was
expired, would that prevent you doing a ketone test?

Hi
I ruled out the Abbott meter for ketone only testing as you still have
to QC the machine for glucose as well. As we have Roche glucose meters,
that was way too complicated for the staff!

We understand that you cannot turn off the glucose function on the
Abbott machine, is this true?

Hi Caroline,
We're in the middle of a blood glucose and ketone monitoring tender so
will be interested to read any replies you receive. There is also the
Abbott FreeStyle Precision Pro (formerly Precision Xceed Pro) blood
glucose and ketone monitoring system which is also connectable. This
newer version also has wireless capability.
Hope this helps,
Kerry

Dear All,
We are currently evaluating the Nova StatStrip ketone machine. Does
anyone have any good/bad experience to share for this device?
We would also be interested to know if anyone is using or aware of any
other PoC ketone machines from other providers with are connectable.
Thanks in advance,
Caroline Addison
