Thanks for all the really useful feedback to my question re online anatomy tools and Primal Pictures in particular. I have summarised the key points from the replies.
Comments about Anatomy.tv via Primal Pictures were that:
- It is very popular with users.
- Used by a wide range of staff in many hospitals. Usage groups have included dental students, MBBS medics years 1-5, nurses and biomedical science students studying anatomy, Drs and physios
- “anaesthetist trainees like it a lot, as they can see / learn / revise vascular pathways etc, brain and vasular bits good for the juniors/trainees in neurology/stroke/cardio etc as well”.
- It has a good range of images and some quizzes. It gives video clips which show the different ways that the body moves and pictures that build up from bone to arm by adding muscles, tendons etc .
- Most people have subscribed to particular modules according to outcomes of trials rather than the whole package.
- Access can be via Athens and requires up-to-date browsers
- General consensus that library staff and users are happy with product and supplier. Reps happy to provide demos and have delivered training which has been well attended.
- Users like the fact that they can use images and clips in presentations (for non-commercial use)
- On the negative side one comment was that the people who wanted the resource tended to use it and copy the pictures etc and then not return to use it again.
As regards a separate product:
Thieme is offering the Teaching Assistant Anatomy which contains around 2.600 anatomical images from the Gilroy Atlas of Anatomy featuring the entire body.
The images can be zoomed and downloaded for use in presentations, etc. but in contrast to primal pictures the images are in 2D only. You can find a demo at http://www.thiemeteachingassistant.com/Demo trials can be arranged.
Kind Regards
