It is with great sadness that I have to inform list members that our colleague Professor Ailsa McKay died yesterday morning. Ailsa may be best known to Social Policy analysts for her book ‘The Future of Social Security Policy: Women, Work and a Citizens Basic Income’ (2005) but she also made a significant contribution to Feminist Economics and in particular to the development of gender budgeting. She was Director of the Women in Scotland’s Economy research centre (WiSE) and a member of the Expert Working Group on Welfare and Constitutional Reform advising the Scottish Government.
She will be greatly missed by her colleagues at Glasgow Caledonian University and among the international Social Policy and Feminist Economics research communities.
