The MRC Epidemiology Unit, a department within the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge, wishes to appoint a Director of Research. Please note that the closing date for the application period of this post is coming up on Monday March 31st 2014, which is why this reminder is being sent.
The mission of the MRC Epidemiology Unit is to understand the genetic, developmental and environmental determinants of obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders and translate this into preventive action. The department comprises an MRC funded unit with a number of interlinked programmatic areas supported by a set of large scale epidemiological studies, detailed quantitative metabolic trait studies, case control studies and trials that serve both aetiological and preventive purposes. The department also hosts the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR), one of five UKCRC funded centres of excellence in public health research; this has enabled the department to develop its work on the wider determinants of these lifestyle behaviours and the evaluation of population-level interventions and this provides the scientific context for the post.
The successful candidate will have an international reputation for public health research and will be a leader in the field of understanding population-level determinants of dietary behaviour and the development and evaluation of interventions that impact on dietary behaviours. They will have the vision, experience and enthusiasm to build on current strengths within the department as well as an established track record in attracting research grant support to further these developments and will play an integral role in the strategic direction and leadership of the department. This is an exceptional opportunity for a leading academic to make a significant contribution at one of the world's leading Universities.
