Hi all,
This is a last call for any researchers who would like to get involved in the Herolab project.
Herolab is funded by the RAEng; we are producing an online, motion comic that will take engineering into the primary school classroom. During stage one of the project we produced a prologue issue of the Herolab comic, inviting children to design superheroes and villains. The aim is to explain the science fact behind the science fiction, by tying current research to the superpowers exhibited in the comic.
We are looking for current engineering researchers, to record short vox pops explaining their research. These videos will form part of the final teaching resource- teachers will be able to click on 'information' icons to find out more about the concepts introduced during the story. We are particuarly looking to highlight research in acoustics/sonics, quantum mechanics, smart materials and web security/hacking.
What do you get out of it? The opportunity to see your research translated into a superpower and feature in a comic designed and drawn by Andy Lanning & Ant Williams, who have worked with both Marvel and DC Comics. You'll also attend a one-day communication skills workshop at the University of Central Lancashire and can use the vox-pop recording for your own engagement work
You'll need to be available on either - Wed 7th or Wed 14th May, to visit UCLan, Preston. All expenses are covered by the project.
You can see the prologue issue here http://herolab.co.uk/Hero-Lab-Comic-Issue-1.pdf
