One prestigious President’s PhD Research studentship is available at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University, to commence late September 2014. The successful PhD applicant will work with Professor Aris Syntetos on the interface between statistical and judgemental supply chain forecasting.
Project Title: Rule-Based Judgemental Interventions into Statistical Sales Forecasts
The PhD is funded by the President’s scholarships of Cardiff University. It offers the opportunity to develop cutting-edge research on the interface between statistical and judgemental forecasting. This post involves considerable exposure to real world business environments, talking with practitioners and formally retrieving information from them via interviews and focus groups. As such, excellent communications skills and team spirit are required in addition to excellent academic studies and intellectual ability.
Funding:
This studentship consists of full tuition fees for UK/EU or International Students. It also includes a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£13,726 p.a. in 2013/14, updated each year).
Additional funding for conference attendance is available. PhD students within the the Logistics and Operations Management (LOM) section of Cardiff Business School are supported regularly towards conference attendance and dissemination of their findings.
Eligibility:
Residency: This studentship is open to students of any nationality without further restrictions.
Academic criteria:
A first class degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics (or other quantitative disciplines) with a particular (demonstrable) interest or further studies in Psychology.
OR
A first class degree (or equivalent) in Psychology (or other disciplines within Humanities) with a particular (demonstrable) interest and further studies in quantitative disciplines.
Preference will be given to Master’s degree holders (with distinction).
Additionally, applicants should possess the following essential skills/knowledge:
Knowledge of a (mathematical) programming language (e.g. VB/R/Matlab)
A good understanding of business context.
