This series of short tutorials created by staff and students from the Mathematical, Physical & Life Sciences Division, is designed to equip post-16 learners with the key study skills required to succeed on a university or college course. In the first episode, Sally LePage (DPhil student at Oxford University) and Liz Timoney White (Trainer in business skills and partner at FranklinCovey) offer helpful tips on how to effectively manage your time and goals as a student in order to achieve a healthy work-life balance. Their easy-to-follow structure and personable style make them the ideal study companion for learners everywhere.

Hi Amber and all,
Just following on from David Kernohan's email below about the 'SMOOC' that has been in development in higher education in Wales.
Brief details of the SMOOC and other aspects of the Higher Education Wales OER/open practice initiative were given last year on the Higher Education Wales website.
http://www.hew.ac.uk/wales-signs-declaration-of-intent-to-lead-the-way-on-the-use-of-online-education-resources/ .
My contact with it is as one of the Jisc RSC Wales representatives on a group advising Higher Education Wales on its overall OER/open practice initiative, and I'm afraid I don't have any more up to date details of its development at present.
A good person to get in touch with is the newly-appointed Project Manager for the Higher Education Wales OER/open practice initiative. She is Deborah Baff [log in to unmask] and I think is a member of this list.
Quite separately, but maybe of use:
There was a move last autumn (discussed on the champ-curriculum Jiscmail list) to look at a MOOC for FE college students preparing to move into HE (MOOCs4FE). They would have looked at the kind of 'study skills' areas you mention, but I believe the project hasn't progressed further. I also don't know whether it had any intention to involve OER. The person leading on it at the time was Tony Delahunty at College of North West London.

A team working in Wales is preparing a "SMOOC" in this area - if you contact Lis Parcell at Jisc RSC Wales she'll be able to give you an update regarding the open materials that the team have already gathered.
Also (not open, though) there is a FutureLearn MOOC on this topic, https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/preparing-for-uni which may be a useful source of inspiration regarding course structure.
And +1 regarding Viv Seiber's collection of resources - amazing stuff!

Colleagues,
Hi! Could you please point me to any openly licensed materials that support students preparing for undergraduate degrees? Study skills but also independent learning for those students away from home for possibly the first time.
Thanking you!
