Hi GH

This is not true. The individual has a lot of mixed up
feelings about the body > family > body politic (imaginary)
which they can’t find a way to express in the symbolic
so it coms back in the real and they cut their arm or whatever
so they are actually in a lot of distress feelings wise

well, someone has to do it!
it seems to me like you want to find symbolic ways to express the feelings you have
in terms of coding or whatever btw I love Artists Meeting as I have seen about it
before on the net
as to picnolepsy – you know that moment when you save over a
document because – and you perhaps think, why did I do that? – you temporarily
forgot that the machine wasn’t you? You know?
art is so important to mental health because it does the work of
symbolic expression for others... Beuys wasn’t wrong when he said
‘everyone’s an artist’ in the sense that it’s so important to express
in the symbolic so that we don’t harm ourselves

Hi Sarah & List,
OK. You can say that any technology causes a type of numbing disassociation within the person. Maybe what you’re talking about with young people
is the disassociation that comes with social media. You have to harm yourself in order to feel anything. And yes, a bunch of people sitting around in a circle
quietly writing code is different from talking to one another of singing or dancing etc.. So maybe we are harming ourselves by engaging in these types of live coding endeavors.
I like to use digital tools to reveal and enhance our humanity. However it does cut down on much of my social and physical activities.
Unfortunately I think that humanity is on a path towards becoming hybrid bio-machines.
