Dear colleagues
There is still time to apply for this job opportunity at LSE Library, but applications close soon.
Assistant Librarian, Discovery and Metadata
Salary: £32,794 to £39,669
We are seeking to recruit a full-time permanent Assistant Librarian to join the Discovery and Metadata team within the Collection Services Group in LSE Library.
The role of the Collection Services Group is to purchase, catalogue and make available resources to support the teaching and research activities of the Library's user community, and to ensure preservation of print and electronic collections. As one of three teams within the Group, the Discovery and Metadata team are responsible for facilitating effective discovery of the full range of Library collections and other scholarly resources, ensuring LSE users can find the resources they need, and that LSE's collections and publications are easily discoverable by the wider world.
As one of the team's three Assistant Librarians (2.4FTE), you will contribute to the development and configuration of the Library's discovery systems, focussing on the resource discovery system (Primo), but also the archives system (CalmView) and research repository (LSE Research Online). You will also take responsibility for the metadata used to populate these systems, managing the implementation of metadata schemas (principally MARC and RDA), and ensuring the quality of metadata supply. You will support the management of the team by monitoring workload targets, and developing operational procedures to deliver continuous improvement of services. You will also develop the use of technologies and systems to support operations and services, with a particular emphasis on developing the library management system, and extending its integration with other systems. You will also line manage individual members of the team, as well as spending some time supporting frontline services.
You will have extensive experience of supporting resource description and discovery in HE or research libraries, with extensive knowledge of metadata standards and schemas. You will be aware of current trends in discovery and metadata, and be able to apply that knowledge to ensure that the Library is positioned to take advantage of new developments, and implement innovative Library services and working practices. You will also have experience of managing or supervising staff.
For further information and informal discussion of the role, please contact Helen Williams, Discovery and Metadata Manager, [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, 020 3486 2988 ). Regular weekend duties are required, and evening duties (to 7 pm), with time taken off in lieu.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 23:59 on Sunday 9th March 2014 (UK time).
We anticipate that interviews will be held during week commencing 24th March 2014.
