Hi,
We're looking for EU partners for the latest Heritageplus call.
We're based at the University of Abertay in Dundee, UK, and for the last few years, we've been working with a number of UK heritage organisations on technologically-mediated experiential access to cultural artefacts. To date, the focus has been on using music technology to create playable digital models of antique keyboard instruments, which can help to resolve the curatorial tension between preserving fragile artefacts for future generations and allowing meaningful access to them by using them for the purpose that they were intended.
We would like to find partners to broaden this work in one of the following areas:
- Developing haptic and tactile interfaces that recreate the 'feel' of musical instruments as well as the sound
- Examining other technologically-mediated methods (both tactile and non-tactile) for recreating the experience of playing the instruments
- Translating the current approach and experience of musical instruments to other cultural experiences
- Examining the impact of virtual and non-tangible exhibits on the museum sector as a whole, and how that might shift perceptions of the role of the museum and the nature of 'authenticity' with regard to museum exhibits.
Given the fairly broad scope here, we would be interested in hearing from anyone who might contribute to these lines of enquiry, including engineers, psychologists, curators, historians and philosophers.
Please feel free to get in touch using the contact details below:
