The UK EPOS Steering Group and the University of Liverpool invite you to attend a workshop to be held 14-15 April to define the future needs of Solid Earth Infrastructure both for the UK itself and to ensure that the UK plays an appropriate part in European and other international initiatives. Colleagues from Ireland are especially welcome, and there is no charge for attending.

Dear all,
Solid Earth Observing Systems: A workshop to define the future needs of Solid Earth Infrastructure
Workshop to be held at Liverpool University, 14-15 April 2014
As a result of the UK steering group meeting for the EPOS – European Plate Observing System – held in December it was felt that it was timely to get the wider UK community together.
Overarching aims
To focus on the grand scientific challenges and (observational) infrastructure needs of the Solid Earth community.
Specifically to:
Develop concepts for large infrastructure, in‐situ and remote sensing and including analogue laboratories
Define the scientific added value of EU infrastructure such as EPOS, ECCSEL, ICDP, IODP
Earth science community development /building
What is the relationship to European and International Infrastructures?
Consider how best integrate UK infrastructure into international efforts like EPOS
Drivers
The potential availability of large strategic capital awards in the UK and Ireland,
The start of the EC’s Horizon 2020 programme
The increasing integration of European international infrastructure
Target Audience
Academic community, data providers and users
Since we envisage that the workshop might also cover the continental shelf in this context we also invite Irish participants in EPOS,
and solid earth science infrastructures.
