The Irish Journal of Sociology (IJS) recently underwent an editorial
transition. This involved a number of big changes to the journal including
but not limited to:
1. New Editorial Board: Eoin Devereux (UL), Bryan Fanning (UCD), Daniel
Faas (TCD), Niamh Gaynor (DCU), Andreas Hess (UCD), Katy Hayward (QUB,
Northern Ireland), Susan Hodgett (UU, Northern Ireland), Mervyn Horgan
(University of Guelph, Canada), Melanie Lang (Edge Hill University, UK),
Gregory Maney (Hofstra University, USA), and Bram Spruyt (Vrije
Universiteit Brussels, Belgium).
2. New Associate Editors: Jeffrey Alexander (Yale), Patrick Carroll (UC
Davis), Mary Daly (Oxford), Mary Jo Deegan (Nebraska-Lincoln), Gerard
Delanty (Sussex), Michele Dillon (New Hampshire), Sarah Egan (Bard), Gary
Alan Fine (Northwestern), Kieran Healy (Duke), Michael Hout (NYU), Maciej
Hulas (JPII Lublin, Poland), Eugene Hynes (Kettering), Neil McLaughlin
(McMaster), Denis O'Hearn (Binghampton), Louise Ryan (Middlesex), Saskia
Sassen (Columbia), Vered Vinitzky-Seroussi (Hebrew, Jerusalem), and Dorothy
Watson (ESRI).
3. Transition to an Online Manuscript Submission System: the IJS now
accepts manuscripts via ScholarOne Manuscripts. To submit, please visit
http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/mijs
4. Appointment of first Regional Editor, UK: Lucy Michael (Hull).
5. New categories of Submissions: Beginning February 2014, the journal will
accept and publish 2-3 page pieces in four new in-brief sections: Archives,
Databases, Debates, and Trends. This is in addition to receiving original
articles and book reviews.
6. Web Presence: The journal now has a much improved online presence to
help sharpen its identity. For more detail, please visit the journal

7. Turnaround Times: it is our goal to render a first decision on every
manuscript received within 4 weeks. All manuscripts sent for review will be
evaluated by three external reviewers.
