Just looking for some background information on a record which has appeared in a met council HR department. Clearly the met council was not in existence during WWII and there is no identifying creator on the record.
One bound volume labelled War Service Records which dates from 1939-1944.
Divided into two sections (one for officers and another for servants) this records allowances and superannuation contributions of local government employees on war service. Each employee has one sheet detailing their particulars, next of kin and allowances however no employer is noted. The majority of addresses are local to Warwickshire but some are as far away as Wales, Essex and Liverpool so I’m wondering whether some men were sent to this area for work reasons and were using a local address?
The only references to any council are one record for an employee of Solihull Council and another crossed through stating “left council”. The name of the council creating/holding the record is not recorded anywhere.
Its clearly a local government record but as some addresses are from outside of Warwickshire there may be a wider significance which I am not aware of.
Can anyone help shed any light on this record?
Regards,
Dawn
