CFP Deadline Extended:
'Happy Anniversary? Measuring the Impact, Legacy and Success of
Anniversary Events'.
13 May 2014, Hampton Court Palace.
In her speech at the Conservative Party Conference, Maria Miller announced
that the Government was setting up an 'anniversaries fund' worth ten
million pounds to commemorate significant national anniversaries and which
would be run by the Heritage Lottery Fund:

In the context of such increasing political support and public funding for
marking 'special anniversaries' in the UK, this workshop provides a forum
for investigating what is being celebrated or commemorated, why and how.
It will investigate what the intended outcomes of such events are and how
they can be measured.
The workshop aims to share best practice about past and current
anniversary events and to affect future decision-making in relation to
such projects. By the end of the workshop we aim to have gained an
understanding of the changing landscape of such events.
We invite 10 minute 'provocation papers' which discuss specific
anniversary events of the past or present and which address issues
relevant to contemporary and future anniversary events. Topics can
include, but are not limited to: Curriculum, Funding, Cultural Value,
Media and Public Awareness, and The Research Agenda.
Please send a 200 word abstract and brief biography to:
[log in to unmask] by 15 March 2014.
The project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council as part
of the 'Significance of the Centenary' exploratory network. Depending on
demand, the workshop will be free to attend and we hope to be able to
provide some travel bursaries.
