Hi all,
Many thanks to those that responded to my email regarding Web of Science / Web of Knowledge problems and IE.
I may have somewhat confused the issue by mentioning IE compatibility view.
In a list of retrieved results on WoS in IE when we connect via our linkresolver for full text we sporadically receive an 'Invalid Request' error message, perhaps one result in ten.
My colleague, Karen ran a http trace of the request which seemed to suggest that a very long URL may be getting truncated at 2085 characters. Karen maintains that on hitting the linkresolver on the apps.webofknowledge.com page, the URL given in the trace is truncated at the 285th character. The same trace when accessed via Chrome and Firefox has a significantly longer URL 2298 and extra parameters which look important for the resolution of the URL. In the cases that work the URL's length is under 285 characters.
I have discussed the issue with Thomson Reuters and they are currently investigating the problem.
Best regards,
Geraldine

Subject: Web of Science / Web of Knowledge problems and IE
Hi all,
I know there has been some prior discussion on LIS-E-Resources regarding the new Web of Science interface.
We are having some difficulty only on Internet Explorer with some of our links to full text once a search has been conducted in Web of Science, we receive an error message to say we're using IE7, even though we're using IE9. We then receive an Invalid Request message on the Web of Knowledge interface. The problem remains even if the compatibility mode is disabled.
Thomson Reuters have advised that it is the proxy connection at our end appears to be causing the issue with Internet Explorer. However the problem occurs even when we do not use the proxy on campus so I do not believe it is a proxy issue.
There is no issue accessing the same resources in either Chrome or Firefox.
Many thanks,
Geraldine
