Just as an interesting aside and in the spirit of "expectations" we (Lee
and I) have done some work with URS on ACM material in soil and we have
got the value up to 0.1 % with a fair bit of head room on the risks.
Any ideas haw we could license use of the document to support hard up LA
funds- (half serious joke)
In reality I think it will be released in the SOBRA report-- along with
a Activity based sampling protocol
Cheers.

Dear All,
The WA guidance utilises the Swartjes and Tromp approach to derive a
fibre in soil screening level (0.001%w/w) Interesting now is the
Australian CON-CARE/AECOM (Ben Hardaker) are funding further research
into "scrape and suck" box testing to refine this figure for standard
soils and moistures.
As a byline I was asked by WA Health to prepare initial thoughts on the
mechanisms for soil to air transfer of fibres with a view to deriving a
semi-quanititative methodology for estimating air concentration from
soils. The method looked at relative potency of fibre type and length,
soil type and moisture and other physical factors such as soil
roughness, crusting, vegetative cover and topography. It was also
proposed that (arguably) the Aerodynamic Equivalent Diameter of a
10micron fibre was "similar" to a PM10 dust particle. With this being so
existing dust entrainment models could be applied equally to fibre.
Also that PM10 occurance could be used as a qualitative surrogate for
fibre occurance.
As for a universal numerical model...? - expectation management people!
