Slightly young for the 12 year-olds, perhaps, but graphically mature, so worth a look:
Saul Bass's 'Henri's Walk to Paris'
Obvious novels:
- the big Tolkiens
- 'Walkabout' by James Vance Marshall

Dear colleagues
I am going to be taking The Walking Library into a school this month - with 8-12 year olds. I'd like to carry a library of books about walking appropriate to this age group - fact, fiction, poetry, auto/biography - whatever.
I am clueless! Any suggestions gratefully received!
