Dear Colleagues
With apologies for cross-posting... please forward to any postgraduate or early-career researcher colleagues who you think this may be of interest to...
We would like to invite postgraduates and early career researchers with a research interest in Transport Geography, as well as transport researchers from other disciplines who may not self-identify as transport geographers but would benefit from participating in this event, to a RGS-TGRG spring workshop hosted at the University of Leeds on 2nd-3rd April 2014.
The workshop aims to provide a constructive and welcoming space for postgraduates and early career researchers to present their research regardless of the stage they may currently be at. The workshop will feature a varied format, including paper and discussion sessions, a keynote address exploring the genres found in transport geography publication, a 'how to publish' session, and a session looking at the dissemination of transport geography research outside academia.
If you would be interested in submitting a full paper or a piece of ongoing research in progress for presentation and discussion at this workshop then prospective participants are invited to submit abstracts of no more than 250 words to Joanna Elvy ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) no later than February 15th 2014.
Acceptance will be confirmed by February 28th 2014. To be able to provide the best feedback and opportunities for discussion participants should send work for discussion two weeks before the workshop. This can be either a full paper of 4,000 words or for those in the early stages of PhD research an extension to the abstract can be sent of up to 1000 words. This may be a "think piece" outlining the direction of the research in progress. Following the model of previous Planning and Environment Research Group events two years ago in Birmingham, each paper will be assigned a discussant. The discussant will present the paper for 10 to 15 minutes, before opening up for wider discussion. There will be up to 20 places available for those presenting.
Up to 10 additional places will be available for those in the early stages of a PhD who do not have work to present but would benefit from participating in a discussion of the presented papers. The application deadline for the 10 additional early stage PhD places is also February 15th 2014.
Registration will open after 28th February, once abstracts have been accepted. The cost for attending the workshop will be £25. This includes session materials and lunch on both days. Unfortunately we cannot provide funds to cover accommodation costs. However, we will be offering a limited number of postgraduate travel bursaries. Please indicate when you register (after 28th February) if you would like to be considered for a bursary. Funding will be allocated to students who cannot gain funding from other sources within their department.
Many Thanks
Jo
