Dear All,

Thanks for your responses. It seems Vidyo may be a little problematic for some after the recent changes; we do not want to rush a move. Today's message was partly intended as a heads-up that Janet support for SeeVogh is expected to end in August and therefore we need to migrate before then. I will wait a few weeks before trying an ops meeting with Vidyo to give everyone a chance to get their clients working. Before next Tuesday I will setup a Vidyo meeting room to enable people to test their clients and for those who have not used it to try it (logging in as a Guest for those without CERN accounts). Janet suggest Visimeet but I have never used it.

The second reason for starting this thread on TB-SUPPORT was to help disseminate the news that Janet "have concluded that delivering Seevogh is no longer cost effective, and we are planning to end Janet support for Seevogh at the end of August 2014." (see the full message below). This means all remaining users of the Janet(UK) community (subscription) on SeeVogh will need to take action. I checked the Janet(UK) SeeVogh community booked meetings and note the following:

*RAL L1Calo Group Meeting
* COMET UK
* COMET Imperial
* GridPP operations meeting
* DMTPC Weekly Meeting
* DEAP-3600 Calibration Meeting
* Scotgrid Technical Meeting

So these at least will be impacted. Others book when needed - I understand for example that groups like T2K UK still use SeeVogh and know that the Storage Group meetings do too.

SeeVogh itself is not going away, just the Janet(UK) community. Many of us are only able to book meetings under that community. If you belong to another community then they have an independent subscription will not be affected by Janet's move - though the nearest local relay server may be outside of the UK. That includes "Coffee and Donuts" booked under Virgo - LSC and the one I want to join the "Galactic Working Group Meeting" under HAWC!

In summary: we do not have a choice about stopping our use of SeeVogh (as the Janet(UK) community will end); everyone should get aquatinted with Vidyo as that is the tool we are most likely to move to; we'll migrate sometime in the coming months once (any new) client problems look fixed.

Jeremy

Subject: Service statement by Janet for users of Seevogh
Date: 20 February 2014 09:48:53 GMT

To all Seevogh users

Janet has supported VRVS, EVO and, most recently Seevogh since the 1990s. The service has served the research community well with specific requirements.

However, as general videoconferencing technology has advanced so much over the past few years, many new feature rich videoconferencing solutions have come onto the market, and the use of EVO and Seevogh by the community has declined dramatically. The recent introduction of Seevogh and its new charging scheme exacerbated the decline.

In October 2012 we wrote to all EVO/Seevogh users that we would review the Seevogh support situation and communicate any changes.

Following a recent review of all Janet Videoconferencing services, we have concluded that delivering Seevogh is no longer cost effective, and we are planning to end Janet support for Seevogh at the end of August 2014.

In order to help us to determine how we can best help users to migrate to other Janet services, we need to understand the current usage, but one option you could consider is Visimeet. The previous users of AGToolkit and IG2 were successfully migrated to Visimeet when the support was withdrawn in August 2013. For more information about Visimeet please click here http://janet.iocom.co.uk/

We would appreciate it if you could tell us how you are using Seevogh-thank you.
