New Perspectives and Future Directions in Social Neuroscience

How will social neuroscience really go social?
The burgeoning field of social neuroscience has seen rapid growth and tremendous success in illuminating the neurobiological foundations of human social behavior over the past years. The investigation of the neural bases of ‘interacting minds’ (Frith & Frith, 1999), however, has proved to be more difficult and could be seen to constitute ‘dark matter’ (Schilbach et al. 2013) or ‘two-brain challenge’ (Konvalinka & Roepstorff, 2012).
The workshop will provide a platform to discuss the ongoing challenges in the understanding of ‘interacting minds’ and elaborate new perspectives and future directions in the social neuroscience. We will bring together the expertise of leading neuroscientists, senior scholars and young investigators to tackle the essential methodological, technical and conceptual issues in the field and share the most recent empirical findings.
We hereby invite contributions to this workshop to be held in Marburg, Germany on the 4th-6th June, 2014. The extended submission deadline for abstracts is the 7th of March.
Contributions must be of a high scientific level, and typically would describe or attempt to understand recent methodological, technical or conceptual challenges in the understanding of ‘interacting minds’ or provide empirical findings using novel paradigms to examine social interactions. Abstract guidelines can be found here: http://www.perspectives-in-social-neuroscience.com/?page_id=159
Submitted abstracts will be rated by the scientific committee and rank ordered considering quality and relevance to the goals of the workshop. The workshop is designed to have a limited number of 30 slots who are opened to senior scholars, postdocs, and experienced PhD candidates. All abstracts will be discussed at the poster sessions and outstanding submissions will be selected for a presentation during chaired symposia. Successful applicants will be informed shortly after this year’s OHBM decisions.
Please note that there is no registration fee for participants and accommodation as well as catering is free for the whole time of the workshop. Additionally, 8 travel grants will be offered to participants with limited funding. More details can be found here:
