Hello Jenny,
I think that it is probably a moulding plane that has been modified to
be a rebate plane. The name stamps are likely to be the former owner's
names as tradesmen often did this, which is quite nice as it shows how
it's passed from hand to hand over the years of its use.
Salaman's book is a great reference work - keep up the search!
All the best,
Debbie

Hello everyone,
Apologies for cross-posting.
I'm looking for some help to identify this woodworking plane (see
attached). It's original catalogue record from the sixties calls it a
moulding plane, however, this doesn't seem quite right as it doesn't
have a shaped blade/iron. We're doing a collections review in this
area, so it would be great to know what this is, and of the existence of
any others (or not, as the case may be!).
It's stamped "W. HASELDEN" and "TURNER" on one end. The stock is
comprised of several pieces, possibly a repair or modification? The
sole is flat but not smooth, the cutting iron slightly skewed and
protrudes slightly more on the forward edge (not sure if this is
intentional). It's 24 cm at its highest point, 13cm wide and 4.5 cm
thick.
Any thoughts or suggestions welcome!
Jenny
