Applicants are sought to for a Research Associate position in Theoretical Combustion Chemistry to work in the group of Dr. Alexander Mebel in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida International University.
The successful candidate will perform theoretical calculations within the project `Theoretical studies of chemical reactions related to the formation and growth of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and molecular properties of their key intermediates funded by the US Department of Energy.
The responsibilities will include carrying out ab initio quantum chemical calculations of potential energy surfaces of chemical reactions related to the formation and growth of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in combustion flames and theoretical kinetics calculations of reaction rate constants and product branching under various combustion conditions, such as temperature and pressure, using statistical theories.
The successful candidate will be also responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of the Linux Computer Cluster in Dr. Mebel's laboratory and its software including quantum chemistry and theoretical chemical kinetics program packages.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in theoretical physical chemistry, chemical physics, or a related field, and experience in the following areas: ab initio calculations of potential energy surfaces for chemical reactions using advanced quantum chemical methods and software, theoretical chemical kinetics, combustion chemistry, as demonstrated by published work, and also Linux/Unix operational systems.
Qualified candidates should attach CV in a single pdf file. Review will continue until position is filled. Research positions are a part of the modified search process. A Search and Screen Committee is not required.
