Networking Knowledge, journal of the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network, seeks guest editors and articles
Networking Knowledge is an e-journal published by the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network. The Network brings together around 400 postgraduate and early-career researchers in the fields of media, communications, and cultural studies. The aim of Networking Knowledge is to provide a space where the best work from this thriving postgraduate community can be showcased. Although only featuring the work of postgraduate and early-career researchers, the journal aims to encourage open debate across all levels of scholarship. It features research from the full range of subject areas represented by MeCCSA, under the broad headings of Media Studies, Communication Studies and Cultural Studies.
Expressions of interest from prospective Guest Editors needed
Supported by the MeCCSA-PGN Executive Committee and an advisory board of PG and ECR peer reviewers, Networking Knowledge publishes an issue every two months, with at least one issue per year based on work arising from the annual MeCCSA-PGN Conference. Specifically-themed guest edited issues are also published throughout the year in order to cater for more specific research interests. The journal is now calling for prospective guest editors who are interested in editing collections of articles on a theme of their choice. This will include conceiving the theme and its parameters, seeking and selecting authors through an open call for 5-8 articles, managing the peer review process, copy-editing articles and contributing a short editorial introduction to the finished collection. Guest editors will be supported throughout the process by the Journal Editor, who will also prepare the final articles for online publication.
This is a valuable opportunity for PG researchers to gain experience of all aspects of peer-reviewed journal publication, as well as developing interaction with peers who have similar research interests. Teams of two or three Guest Editors are acceptable, as well as individuals. Themes can be drawn from any aspect of the subject areas covered by MeCCSA. They should represent a cutting-edge and specific research focus, but be open enough to accommodate a range of disciplinary, methodological and/or geographical areas. As a guide, some previous special issues have focused on:
• Protest and the New Media Ecology
• The Biographical Narrative in Popular Culture, Media and Communication
• American Telefantasy
• Girlhood in Popular Culture
Expressions of interest should be sent to the Journal Editor, Sam Ward ([log in to unmask]), before the deadline of Friday April 25th 2014. They should be no more 500 words and include:
• A provisional title for the collection
• The proposed theme, including a brief explanation of existing relevant research and what the collection will seek to contribute
• Brief examples of what article topics might include
• Name(s), institution(s) and e-mail address(es) for the prospective guest editor(s)
As well as guest editors, Networking Knowledge is also seeking articles for open submission.
From 2014/15, in order to make the journal more accessible to contributors who may not fall within the specific themes covered, the journal is now also accepting submissions on an open basis, to be published alongside specifically-themed sections. These will be firstly screened by the Journal Editor for relevance and suitability, then peer reviewed by two members of our PG advisory board. Articles can be on any of the broad subject areas covered by MeCCSA. Full author guidelines can be found here. In summary, abstracts of no more than 250 words can, in the first instance, be e-mailed to the journal editor ([log in to unmask]). The editor will then inform the author if a full article will be relevant and suitable. Alternatively, finished articles of 5,000-7,000 words can be sent unsolicited to the journal editor. The document should include an abstract of no more than 250 words, up to six keywords (to help with peer reviewer selection), and a full References list (see style guidelines via link above).
For any further information, don't hesitate to contact the journal editor ([log in to unmask]).
