We invite applications for consideration for AHRC-funded PhD scholarships from outstanding students, for funding via the North West Consortium and study at the University of Salford. Scholarships cover: all fees (full or part time), annual stipend of circa £13k (full time), access to training and research funds.
Our areas of research expertise include: European cinemas (East and West), celebrity studies, Asian cinemas, reality television, distribution and programming, multimedia/digital/installation media, noise and image, subcultures and cinema, music and documentary, horror, adaptation, post-war North American cinema. We also welcome practice-based PhDs. Research staff include Profs Erik Knudsen, Seamus Simpson and George McKay, and Drs Michael Goddard, Kirsty Fairclough-Isaacs, Andy Willis, Benjamin Halligan, C P Lee.
You will be situated in our MediaCityUK campus, and our partners in the delivery of training include the BBC at MediaCityUK, MOSI, OperaNorth, FutureEverything, and Cornerhouse/Home.

MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and cultural studies in UK Higher Education. Membership is open to all who teach and research these subjects in HE institutions, via either institutional or individual membership. The field includes film and TV production, journalism, radio, photography, creative writing, publishing, interactive media and the web; and it includes higher education for media practice as well as for media studies.
