Dear All,
You might be interested in a current research project that I am involved in together with colleagues here at Sheffield Hallam University and European partners across five countries.
meSch (Material Encounters with Digital Cultural Heritage) is a 4-year EU funded project with the goal of co-designing a novel do-it-yourself platform for the creation of tangible exhibits at heritage sites: cultural heritage professionals will be able to offer visitors new interactive experiences by means of material interaction with smart objects. The goal of meSch is to create an easy-to-use, web-wased and open source platform where "templates" for interactive smart objects can be adapted and customised by cultural heritage professionals to suit their institution or exhibition needs.
In meSch, cultural heritage professionals, artists, designers and technical developers are working together to establish a number of case-studies for smart tangible artefacts in exhibitions, to define requirements for the meSch authoring tool and to evaluate the usefulness and functionality of the platform. The team includes three museums as full partners, and six other heritage institutions as collaborators.
meSch is about to enter its second year and has already produced a number of outputs, which are all documented on our website and blog: http://mesch-project.eu/
You can also find a description of the project on Europeana's blog: http://pro.europeana.eu/web/guest/pro-blog/-/blogs/europeana-meets-the-internet-of-things-in-mesch-%E2%80%93-material-encounters-with-digital-cultural-heritage;jsessionid=48B079671198A4A6D9AAAAAC8A9FB434
You might be interested in keeping up with our progress either through our blog or social media (full info on how to follow us is on http://mesch-project.eu/ ), especially as we will be looking for willing users interested in trying out the meSch platform once a functional prototype is released :)
If you have any questions about the project, feel free to get in touch!
All the best,
Lui
