*apologies for cross posting*
Dear all,
I'm writing to urge you to make back up copies of all of your complex search strategies on word documents or similar. You may already do this (as I often do) but our recent experiences have taught us how very important this is.
In December all our saved search strategies (over 70) were deleted from my EBSCOhost saved search account. I'm hoping at least some of these will be recovered but almost 2 months later we haven't managed to get a positive answer on this. In the mean time we have had to re-enter some searches to perform update searches. This is a lengthy process and soul destroying where they are very long, complex strategies.
I had a similar problem several years ago with searches saved in my York NIHR CRD databases account. In both of these circumstances the response seems to be a baffled person from the technical department who doesn't know what could have happened or where they could be.
I am wondering if I have been particularly unlucky or if others have had similar problems? Has this happened to you and if so, did you ever manage to retrieve your searches? I'd really appreciate any advice.
Just before our searches were deleted we informed our institution library of problems we had in downloading references from Ebsco. They took it up with Ebsco who requested access to my username and password just to look at the searches we had been trying to run. I agreed and now appear to have lost over 70 complex search strategies. In the future I will be very reluctant to give my password details to database hosts!
please be warned,
best wishes
Judy
