Dear fellow candidates.
I have recently been advised by CILIP that I need to work on the organisational aims/objectives part of my portfolio (I am in the process of a resubmission). Neither my own organisation (Longleat Enterprises) nor my department (the library) have any formal aims/objectives/mission statements, nor any such thing. CILIP and my mentor have advised that I do some comparison work, looking at the aims/objectives of other library services, across the sectors, to inform my own thinking in order to draft some aims/objectives for my own library service. I then aim to reflect on the process as part of my portfolio, both to make my organisational aims clearer, and also as a way to engage with other sectors of the profession.
However, I haven’t found it that easy to find a cross-section of library sectors’ aims/objectives online. If any of you could spare the time, I would appreciate receiving some of the written aims/objectives from your own organisations to get me started. I would be interested in hearing from you, both if you feel you work in a library similar to mine (a private, stately home, rare books library – don’t know whether that includes anyone out there!), but more so if you work somewhere completely different, such as a public, academic, health, government, school, … whatever really library. CILIP are particularly keen for me to focus on libraries which fall outside my ‘rare books sector’.
Grateful for anything anyone can give me.
Many thanks
