The town was enclosed - there is a large town ditch just still surviving within the Greyfriars precinct, which as you correctly say has a standing wall
Vince - as I read the article the project was at least England-wide. And Mola are certainly not restricted to the capital any more, see Northants...

But last time I went to Dunwich (a place where seeing bones falling from the cliff was one of the things that first got me into archaeology) the wall was round the friary precinct not the town.

Yes saw it yesterday, and no, I think news to us despite our eroding and previously rapidly surveyed etc coastline. A good idea but needs careful integration so as not to upset the locals already doing this, quite apart from integrating their system with the HERs...
