Members of EVOLUTIONARY-COMPUTING list
We have recently removed messages from this list due to an ongoing legal situation, involving a person and conference mentioned in messages posted to the list.
Messages we have removed from this (and several other lists) have contained the name of a specific conference, the name of its organiser and the phrase "fake conferences". Because these lists have publicly accessible archives then anyone using the internet can read these discussions.
Our Acceptable Use Policy states that JiscMail user activity "does not create liability for us as a service provider" https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/policyandsecurity/ethics.html - we feel that discussions which mention this specific conference and/or the organiser does create liability for us and by removing these discussions we are protecting the service (and subscribers).
We are not taking a stance on the validity of claims about the conferences or people involved, but based upon the ongoing legal case under way and the disruption these posts cause to the normal discussions on our lists, we advise that any messages which refer to the conference or the organiser (in support of, or against) will be removed from JiscMail lists.
In addition we have contacted 13 JiscMail list owners whose lists are being targeted for these messages, explained the situation and have asked their permission in applying a Content filter to the list. This will automatically reject messages which mention the specific conference and/or the organiser involved.
The list owner has approved the filter on this list and has been applied immediately.
We understand that this situation may be frustrating to subscribers, however we are attempting to minimise disruption to the healthy discussions that happen on Jiscmail and reduce the impact on our users.
If you have any questions about this please direct them to JiscMail Helpline, [log in to unmask] - rather than the list (we are not subscribers of the list).
Thanks for your cooperation.
