The College is seeking to appoint Lecturers/Senior Lecturers in Human Geography. The University has several career pathways based around core academic criteria coupled with “enhanced” criteria in research, management and innovation. We are seeking to appoint candidates who have a skill set aligned with teaching combined with enhanced research within the field of Human Geography (or closely related cognate discipline). These are permanent positions and the salary will be on either the Grade 8 or 9 salary depending on the Academic profile which best matches the experience and qualifications of the successful applicants.
Applicants are invited for up to two posts at the level of Lecturer (grade 8) or Senior Lecturer (grade 9) in the Human Geography (or closely related cognate discipline), with the department of Geography, in the College of Science on a Teaching and Research career pathway. The College of Science at Swansea University is a research-led, Internationally recognised centre for academic excellence.
The posts provide a role for candidates whose expertise complements and enhances our existing teaching and research strengths or delivers new perspectives. The Department’s preference is for candidates with a research and teaching focus on Political Geography and/or Economic Geography, and with expertise in the quantitative/spatial analysis of geographical information. The posts are a strategic appointment to expand the Department’s research base through a new core theme focused on extreme events. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to expand their own research activities. All appointments will be required to be an active part of the ongoing programme of expansion and strengthening of the research activity of the Human Geography group and to be committed to excellence in research and in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
We are looking for individuals who can significantly enhance our student learning experience through teaching and continuing development of the curriculum. They will share and promote good practice in teaching and aim to develop innovations in teaching methods to engage and inspire students. In addition all academic staff are expected to undertake key administrative and course leadership duties, varying according to the level staff are appointed at.
