An all-day meeting to be held on Monday 7 April 2014
Professor Robert Curnow joined the Department of Agricultural Botany
at Reading University in 1961 as a Lecturer in Biometry and so began a
period in which statistics flourished in Reading. In 1966 Robert
became the first Professor in an independent Department of Applied
Statistics within the Faculties of Agriculture and Horticulture and of
Science. The Department has attracted many Ph.D. students and students
for its M.Sc. in Biometry course. The Department, that later included
the Operational Research (Health and Social Services) Unit, the
Statistical Services Centre and the Medical and Pharmaceutical
Statistics Research Unit, became internationally renowned for its
quality and diversity.
