Hi Natalie
We use the data produced by A&E as they run samples through the gas
analyser, on their glucose meter and also send samples to the lab. We
then just collated all this information. I have had BMS students doing
Glucose and Hb as part of their projects.I am hoping that this info will
keep CPA happy when we go for accreditation.

Hi Natalie,
We echo Tony's experience. We got a non-conformance at our first POCT
inspection for not doing an in house comparison between the lab and POCT
glucose even though we had published data from another site. They
wanted comparison for every analyte that was done on point of care and
was also available in the lab even urine protein in the lab and the
dipsticks! In addition we have done the electrolytes, glucose, lactate,
hb, hct etc from the blood gases with the lab and we have also done a
comparison between our portable blood gas analyser and the hospital
blood gases. We have published that this data is available on our
website but have not been approached by any clinicians for it.

Hi Natalie
We had a non conformance for this on glucose results. We had run a
comparison between the meters and the lab results when we moved to a new
provider following a tender. However, we then had a conversion to a new
meter within contract from the same provider but did not re-evaluate
that meter type against the lab. We retrospectively ran a comparison of
the results against the lab. This addressed the non-conformance. Since
our assessment we have also run comparison of blood gas data including
electrolytes, Hb and haematocrit. CPA expect any POCT test that is also
available in the laboratory to have evaluation data available i.e. INR,
D-dimer, Troponin to name a few.
We would only conduct this evaluation once unless the technology/strip
type changed again so a periodic comparison shouldn't be necessary.
Regards
Tony

Dear POCT Collective,
We have recently had a successful pre-assessment visit for two of our
POCT services, blood gases and blood glucose, and we are awaiting our
formal assessment date (eek!). One area we were picked up on was
standard F3.6 - the comparability between the POCT and laboratory
methods shall be determined and made available to users. We had assumed
that our detailed evaluation data and EQA participation would fulfil
this standard, but this is not the case. We would be interested to hear
from anyone how they are fulfilling this standard? I was thinking of
periodic comparison of lab and POCT equipment, although the sample types
and stability with glucose and blood gas might make this tricky, and I
don't want to make too much extra work if I'm missing something simple!
Many thanks in anticipation
Natalie
