Patrick Califia's life and works offer an example of many of the
intricacies
and complications.
Califia is a bisexual trans man.
Califia's work has influenced feminism and paganism.
My sense is that, often, how others recognized Califia on a
spectrum of gender determined whether his ideas and outlooks
were considered to be positive or negative (same ideas and
outlooks, but positive, let's say, from the female identified
yet negative from the male identified author). Pretty much
the same for some of Califia's personal affiliations and
relationships.
