Hi all
Details below of a talk, with screenings, being given by Patrick Keiller, at Brunel University on March 17.
Patrick Keiller
The screen mediation of space
Monday 17 March, 10am-1pm, LC262 (Lecture Centre)
Patrick Keiller is one of the most distinctive voices to emerge in British cinema in the last 30 years. Blending architectural photography with fictional narratives, Keiller's idiosyncratic approach has produced sharp, electrifying, and witty portraits of England. Beginning with London (1994) and then Robinson in Space (1997) and Robinson in Ruins (2010), his work largely consists of static camera shots depicting images of urban decay and other socio-economic signifiers. Matters of architecture, French literature, fine art, Surrealism, photography, geography, history, sociology and economics all mingle in Keiller's exercises in psychic landscaping and free association. His films have been widely screened internationally (Berlin Film Festival, Venice Film Festival) and in the UK. In this event, he will be talking about his photographic and cinematographic work, showing slides and clips, and taking questions from the audience.
