Amen to that! And thanks for remembering Sandy Stone. Sandy was a dear friend of mine. Before, during, and after her transition. When I last heard from her, she was living in NYC and complaining (wryly) of the onset of male-pattern baldness. ;-)
One of the most iconic and enduring accomplishments of 2nd wave feminist was the creation and maintenance of women-only space, the supportive ideology for which has been under attack by the simple existence of the transgendered since the days of Sandy's outing in the early '80s. An older (and more cynical) feminist friend commented, at the time, that if the employment of a transgendered woman by Olivia Records was a 'hot issue of contemporary feminism', then the patriarchy can just relax . . .
