Do you have the full facts on Wikipedia?
Love it or hate it, as the sixth most visited website in the world Wikipedia is one source that researchers and information service professionals should not ignore.
Join as in Edinburgh on Tuesday 6th March as Ally Crockford, Wikimedian in Residence at the National Library of Scotland, provides the real facts on Wikipedia. Ally will Introduce participants to the world of Wiki, explain how editors contribute and moderate content and on what basis we can trust the world’s largest online encyclopaedia while dispelling common myths and addressing concerns. Ally will talk about sources such as Wikimedia Commons, Creative Commons licensing for Wikimedia’s digital content, and the risks and benefits of working with Wikimedia personally and professionally. She will also talk about her exciting role as Wikimedian in Residence at the Library and how she is keen to recruit further contributors to these resources.
This promised to be a fascinating event that offers the prospect of attendees gaining a deep insight into a key resource as well as an introduction to contributing to Wikipedia in a personal or professional capacity.
The talk will be followed by drinks and nibbles and an opportunity to network and is kindly sponsored by Springer http://www.springer.com
