FRAUD AND PIRACY
Friday 11 April, London (0945-1615)
Chair: Andrew Pitts, Publisher Solutions Ltd
Speakers: Richard Balkwill, Dominic McGonigal, Roy Kaufman, Paul Doda, Joe Esposito
The last 15 years have seen tremendous change in the distribution of scholarly content and threats to the concept of ownership of intellectual property. Paper subscriptions by individuals and libraries have been replaced by licence deals to universities and consortia. Content can be copied and uploaded in a matter of seconds to sites not authorized by the content owner. Publishers, authors and legitimate subscribers all lose as others exploit the system.
This seminar will examine the extent of the problem and discuss ways in which publishers can detect and manage fraud and piracy.
