Insights: the UKSG journal to become fully open access from March 2014
UKSG is delighted to announce its journal Insights (formerly Serials: <http://www.uksg.org/serials> connecting the knowledge community) will be freely available from March 2014. UKSG has selected to move to a platinum open access model which means authors will not be required to pay a fee to UKSG for publishing their articles.
Lorraine Estelle, Co-Editor of Insights commented “UKSG has long been seen as one of the leaders in the discussions about the future of scholarly communications, so we are excited to be a part of the movement to open access and to disseminate our outputs to as wide an audience as possible”.
Steve Sharp, Co-editor of Insights continued "There are obvious advantages for our authors as we move to an open access model. Many pieces of research have demonstrated that open access articles receive around 50% more full text accesses and PDF downloads than subscription access articles, and that they are cited earlier and more often than non-OA articles. With Insights content indexed in Scopus, we anticipate that a move to open access will herald an upsurge in interest. I am really excited that we now have the chance to share our content more widely, for the benefit of information professionals around the world. "
Insights aims to facilitate communication between the many stakeholders in the global knowledge community. Issues contain a mix of topical articles written by librarians, publishers, vendors and other industry experts, along with conference reviews, editorial comment and features on people in the global knowledge community. UKSG welcomes suggestions for articles by both new and established authors.
