REALITY STREET presents a series of readings, talks and performances at the
legendary Electric Palace cinema in Hastings Old Town, featuring Reality
Street authors, together with guest writers, musicians, film-makers and
photographers.
All events begin at 8.00pm (doors open 7.30) and admission is £5.00
WEDNESDAY 19 FEBRUARY
PHILIP TERRY A reading by the author of tapestry, an extraordinary novel
retelling the story of the Norman Conquest from the point of view of the
Bayeux Tapestryıs English embroiderers. Tapestry was shortlisted for the
inaugural 2013 Goldsmiths Prize for fiction.
KEN EDWARDS The publisher of Reality Street reads from his collection of
fictions Down With Beauty and from Bardo, a reimagining of the Tibetan Book
of the Dead set in Hastings.
ELAINE EDWARDS Co-founder with Ken Edwards of local band The Moors, Elaine
will perform on flute and accordion as part of Bardo.
WEDNESDAY 19 MARCH
CHRISTOPHER PRIEST Acclaimed author of several novels, including The
Prestige, which was made into a major film in 2006, and winner of many
awards, including the Arthur C Clarke Award and the James Tait Black
Memorial Prize. Christopher Priest will talk about his work.
PAUL A GREEN Writer of poetry, fiction and drama, including The Qliphoth,
The Gestaltbunker and the occult/speculative fiction sequence Beneath the
Pleasure Zones, will read from his recent work.
TREVOR WATTS The noted jazz/free improvising alto and soprano saxophonist,
co-founder of the Spontaneous Music Ensemble, and sometime collaborator with
Archie Shepp, Steve Lacy and Don Cherry, will perform solo.
WEDNESDAY 23 APRIL
DENISE RILEY Reality Street published Denise Rileyıs Selected Poems in
2000 and it is still a poetry best-seller. A writer of books on philosophy
and feminism, she will be reading from her recent and not so recent poetry.
RICHARD MAKIN Writer, poet and artist based in St Leonards, whose massive
work of creative non-narrative, Dwelling, was published by Reality Street in
2011. He will present his writing in collaboration with:
