I couldn't agree more - it's a great piece of writing. Thanks!

This is trememendous Rebecca. Well done for putting so cogently something
that so many of us have had to grapple with.
Do send it to the other list too. Everyone should be aware of all this for
all sorts of reasons but also there are also broader points there about the
academic life per se that affect us all.

Subject: Maternity issues and research
Dear all,
I've incorporated some of the points that were made about maternity leave at
the last WIGS AGM in an article in this week's Times Higher:
http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/features/no-kidding-research-is-as-dem
anding-as-a-newborn/2010631.article
It may be a useful reference point both for individuals dealing with these
sorts of issues in their own institutions, and for organisations like WIGS
if we are called upon in the future to make statements concerning REF and
maternity leave. I understand the editors are also planning a follow-up
piece that will look at diverging practices re pay and take-up of maternity
leave across UK HEIs. That could be well worth looking out for too.
Best,
Rebecca
