Simon

I too was completely unaware of this page until a few days ago, when I was alerted to it by a parallel thread on the ALT list. I find the lack of communication on these technical issues completely baffling and unacceptable.

I've seen only 1 brief piece of information pushed out via Twitter:

https://twitter.com/TurnitinStatus/status/427782630210142208

At 7:09PM (PST) on 24th Jan a fix was released to address submission issues encountered by some customers using IE in compatibility mode.

And I believe I received that notification also by email, as Turnitin Admin.

I have had no emails at all (other than from colleagues on this and other lists) alerting me to issues relating to receipts, nor the planned fix date.

Meanwhile I see (thanks to a retweet by TurnitinStatus) that another source of info might be https://twitter.com/TiiTabitha

Oh great. Now I have to follow their Product Manager on twitter for updates.

It's going to be a lively User Group meeting in Birmingham on Feb 12th.

Dear Melanie,

Thank you so much for the link to the Known Issues page. I feel like an idiot because I didn't know about this, though we regularly check the Turnitin Twitter feedback and have e-mail subscription to status updates.

Can I ask all colleagues - have you been advised before to check this Known Issues page? I have to be honest that I may have missed this. However, I note that when I contacted the Turnitin Help Desk earlier this week to find out about the IE submission and e-mail receipt probs, I asked them why they didn't make us administrators aware of the issues without having to call to find out and they didn't mention this page!!!

Yours in some frustration,

Si.

Hello

I'm not sure if others have mentioned there's a known issues link for Turnitin on this page: http://submit.ac.uk/en_gb/services/support/help-center

I note the problem of email receipts not being received is scheduled to be fixed February 26, 2014.

Our helpdesk are going to get a lot of calls!

We've also had a lot of students reporting the issue of the screen freezing on upload - mostly when using Safari so far.

Best wishes

Melanie

Thanks to everyone who replied about this problem - I have now had confirmation from Tii that there is a problem for papers submitted on or after 23rd Jan. Information from my Tii ticket arrived over the weekend:

" Our engineering team is urgently investigating an issue with some digital receipts not being received via email after successful submission. We apologize for any inconvenience. This issue applies only to submissions made on or after January 23, 2014. Additionally, digital receipts sent through Turnitin integrations may be missing the Submission ID number."

Thanks

Kate

Hi Melanie and all,

I logged a support request with Turnitin yesterday regarding the issue with Safari freezing since we noticed that too. I find it surprising that their testing is not robust enough and they have to rely on end users informing them about such issues. Surely testing all recommended browsers and OS's before any software update is announced is paramount?

Back in November 2013 we experienced the screen freezing on upload issue using Internet Explorer and reported it to Turnitin. They were not able to offer a solution at the time. I discovered for myself after testing that it happened because of a conflict with Internet Explorer's compatibility view and advised our users of a settings workaround. Note: this was before the new submission workflow changes were in place. However, when i queried this earlier this week, i received a response from Turnitin Support saying that the issue although similar was unrelated. I do find that strange.

With best wishes,

Aleks
