Hi all,
Following Heidi, Adi and Paul,
I am the University of Nottingham lecturing media studies. My research primarily focuses on gay identity and queer activism in China. I am interested in how Confucian notions of family, kinship and subjectivity as well as socialist/communist collectivity impact on queer subjectivity in china today. I am also interested in the pro forma marriage practices (marriages between a gay and a lesbian to cope with pressures from their parents and the society) as well as alternative family practices in China's gay community.
All the best,
Hongwei Bao

I am currently researching sexual citizenship and care homes for old people (across differences of gender, sexuality, class, race and biography). I am also interested in changing masculinities (though I am not a fan of Giddensian inspired inclusive masculinity theory) and especially how tasks and gender relations are being (partly) reconfigured in service sector workplaces/neoliberal economies and the mutual impact this has on gender relations in personal life. In this respect, I am interested in how biopower encourages reports of self-realization in working conditions many academics would consider less than desirable and in ways that cannot be reduced to false consciousness.

Indeed, I am drawn to Jennifer Mason's (2011) thinking on 'facet methodology' which makes contradictions and contingencies central to enquiry.

I was also involved in a project looking at queer kinships among South Asian 'post-migrant' clubbers in the GLBT Bollywood/Bhangra club scene in London. I look forward participating and learning from others on the list!
